Tasmanian Golf Vacation - Tee It Up in
Paradise! |
|
| |
A Tasmanian golf
vacation can be the trip of a lifetime, and with a little careful
planning you can get in more great golf at more fantastic courses
than you ever thought possible. Each island has it's own gems, and
there are many incredible golf courses that have managed to fly
under the radar but are nevertheless great values and spectacular
golf. Here's a sampling of some of the awesome tracks to play on
your nextTasmanian golfing vacation, |

| Tasmania - A Tasmanian golf vacation is
normally characterized by lush green courses sitting precariously
next to aincent rainforests. The Rainforests provide stark contrast
on many courses on the island, some of the more popular being
Flinders Island, with it's course testing your wind skills; Tungatina with its moss covered greens, and our Newest Course, Barbougle
a classic resort with golf experience to match.
The Mighty Royal Hobart Golf Course is well worth a play as well. Another
well-known and great course is Roseberry, sitting amidst
Gold Fields and petroglyph fields |

- A Tasmanian golf vacation without a stop in Bothwell would be akin to
visiting France and ignoring the Eiffel Tower. Golf in Tasmania is
exquisite, We enjoy more courses per head of population than any Australian state, and here are some of the best. My favorite is Barnbougle,
particularly playing a still day on the dunes
If you can make it past several hard tee shots and
drop dead vistas on every tee box, you'll be back again and again.
Other Nothern Tasmanian Course is The Shearwater Country Club, definitely worth a look, a gem of a
course; , a bear of a course, and Royal Kaanapali, home of
several LPGA and Senior events in the past. Also don't overlook
Pukalani, upcountry and on the slopes of an extinct volcano,
probably Hawaii's best golf bargain. Last but not least, another
great value would be the Dunes, barnbougle course always
deserving of a round during your golf vacation.

| Ninety minutes flight from Sydney, fifty from Melbourne, or a leisurely Bass Strait crossing overnight on the "Spirit" transports you to an island of great contrasts – "Europe in a Shoebox" its been called.
The Apple Isle boasts the most golf courses - per capita - of all Australian states. It also lays claim to this country’s oldest layout at "Ratho", Bothwell in the southern highlands. If one makes a serious pilgrimage, and travels the Lake Highway from Launceston in the north to Hobart in the south, then this quaint course with its square greens fenced against the local sheep, and the tiny golf museum in town should be part of it.
Just as Tasmania retains some of our finest wilderness areas – Cradle Mountain, Franklin Gordon National Park – and early convict history, so the pressures of modern life have not entirely caught up with Tasmanian golf. Visitors will receive a warm welcome at all courses provided enquiries are made in advance and members’ competition times are avoided where advised.
The capital, Hobart (pop. 450,000) possesses the greatest concentration of courses – a smorgasbord of nine courses on the Eastern Shores alone, where the Derwent and other rivers pour into Storm Bay past cliffs, beaches, swamps and coastal plains. Nature presented the course architects with a wonderful diversity of terrain, and their endeavours are sure to satisfy golfing appetites of all types.

Wherever you choose to plant your tee for
your next Tasmanian golf vacation, these are choices that you can't go
wrong with. Just try and keep your eye on the ball!
